Dear Spiritual Leader:
We pray that you have found our website encouraging and useful.
We prayed a very long time how to make a page dedicated for
our spiritual leaders of Jacksonville. Nothing we could say would
ever be more moving than the words of Martin Luther, John
Calvin, Francis Schaeffer or our God, that is not our purpose.
Our purpose to allow everyone willing to hear the words of
Luther, Calvin, Schaeffer and most importantly, what our God
says about abortion and the call Christians have regarding
abortion.
Martin Luther said, "Under this commandment not only he is guilty
who does evil to his neighbor, but he also who can do him good,
prevent, resist evil, defend and save him, so that no bodily harm
or hurt happen to him, and est does not do it. If, therefore, you
send away one that is naked when you could clothe him, you have
caused him to freeze to death; if you see one suffer hunger and
do not give him food, you have caused him to starve. So also, if
you see any one innocently sentenced to death or in like distress,
and do not save him, although you know ways and means to do
so, you have killed him. And it will not avail you to make the
pretext that you did not afford any help, counsel, or aid thereto,
for you have withheld your love from him and deprived him of the
benefit whereby his life would have been saved."1
John Calvin said, "For the fetus, though enclosed in the womb of
its mother, it is already a human being, and it is a monstrous
crime to rob it of the life which it has not yet begun to enjoy. If it
seems more horrible to kill a man in his house than in a field,
because a man's house is his place of most secure refuge, it
ought surely to be deemed more atrocious to destroy a fetus in
the womb before it have come to light."2
Francis Schaeffer believed, "Churches opposed to abortion must
be prepared to extend practical help to both the unmarried
woman who is pregnant and the married woman who may be
faced with the question of abortion. Merely to say to either one,
'You must not have an abortion' - without being ready to involve
ourselves in the problem - is another way of being inhuman. The
unmarried woman may need a place to stay. Time should be
taken to tell her about the many couples who cannot have babies
and who long to have a child to adopt. She will certainly need
counsel about how to car for her child if she decides to keep the
baby. Pleasant institutions should be available for unmarried
women awaiting the birth of a baby, but each person who does
not believe that abortion is right should personally be prepared to
offer hospitality, financial aid, or other assistance."3
We have an entire page on our site dedicated to what the
Scripture says about valuing life. One only has to read David's
Psalm 139 or our Lord's words in Jeremiah 1:5 or the beloved
physician's account of a pregnant Mary and a pregnant Elisabeth
in Luke 1:41.
In closing, all that we have comes from the grace of God. We will
be happy to share any of it with you and your congregation.
Please feel free to write us or call.
Respectfully yours in Christ.
